What does being a member of 513 mean to Byron?
I am a proud member of I.U.O.E. Local 513 because of the values and principles that it has formed in my life. These values were first passed down to me by my parents. The principles of being a member are one of hard work, dignity, fairness of treatment to others, reasonableness, integrity, and honesty. These principles have been a part of my career as a member of I.U.O.E. Local 513. As a Business Agent, I feel that I can make a positive contribution to our local. It has been a great opportunity for me and my family to be a part of this great organization.
What does the Treasurer do for 513?
It is the job of the Treasurer to receive and hold all funds collected by the Financial Secretary and delivered to him; to give receipt for monies delivered to him, to make no disbursements without the approval of the Local Union and only upon written order of the President and Recording Corresponding Secretary: to make an itemized statement and report to the Local Union at the end of each quarter on the condition of his accounts and the transaction of his office.
How did Byron get started with 513?
I had a summer job working for S.L.A.T.E. (St. Louis Agency on Training and Employment) partnering with Operation Brightside to clean up the City, where Operating Engineers Training School held training on the vacant lots, I watched and asked how I could apply. I did, and here I am, 38 years later.
Some of Byron’s Accomplishments at 513:
I have helped to negotiate contracts, organized non-union contractors, and won grievances.
