What does being a member of 513 means to Benjamin?
Being part of an organization larger than myself, brothers and sisters working together for the greater good of its members. I’m proud to call myself an Operating Engineer for Local 513.
What does a Trustee do for 513?
It shall be the duty of the trustee to have supervision over all funds and property of the Local Union under such instructions as they shall from time to time receive from the Local Union; to see that the funds of the Local Union are deposited by the proper officers in such banks and accounts therein as the Local Union shall designate; to examine the bank books and records of the Treasurer and any officer holding funds of the Local Union and see the same are correct.
How did Benjamin get started with 513?
After eleven years of working as a Union Ironworker for local 396, I was injured on the job. I was unable to fully return as an ironworker. I spoke with former business agent John Lindsey about joining Local 513 as an operator. John directed me through the proper steps, and I started my apprenticeship in 2008.
Some of Benjamin’s Accomplishments at 513:
Assisted in quarterly audits of union monies to ensure they have been used wisely and appropriately.
I am married to my wife, Kim Ballard and proud father of an amazing young lady, Katie Ballard. Originally from Columbia, MO. I currently reside in Centralia, MO close to my family farm.
